Head coach Kyle Shanahan expects his two starting cornerbacks, Richard Sherman and Ahkello Witherspoon, to be ready to go. Sherman missed Thursday's practice with what was listed as a heel injury.
"Sherm, I expect him to be out there," Shanahan said Friday morning during a KNBR interview. "He didn't practice yesterday. He's had some wear and tear on his heel and everything like that that he's been through. We're taking it smart with him."
Witherspoon played through an ankle injury during last weekend's win over the Detroit Lions. He was also listed with a hip injury in this week's practice reports.
"He hasn't been 100 percent," Shanahan said. "We talked about that last week. Hopefully, he'll be 100 percent by game day."
Shanahan added: "They'll be ready to go on Sunday. They'll be up to a big challenge because, like I said, how fast [the Chiefs] can run and how good their players are. But our guys will be ready to go, and I think we'll get after them on Sunday."
Wide receiver Marquise Goodwin (quadricep) will be a game-time decision and Shanahan puts the chances of him playing on Sunday at about 50 percent.
"It's tough to break down on it, especially as a receiver, to make cuts," Shanahan said. "He's not there yet. Hopefully, he'll be there by Sunday, but that will be a 50/50 situation."
Safety Jaquiski Tartt, who injured his shoulder against the Lions, is questionable to play on Sunday.
Linebacker Malcolm Smith (hamstring) has been practicing all week and could see some work at one of the middle linebacker spots. Shanahan has not tipped his hand on who his two starters will be at those positions. Reuben Foster will undoubtedly be one of the starters as he returns from a two-game suspension. Rookie linebacker Fred Warner has been impressive in his two starts with Foster and Smith out.
