Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters after the game that Sherman suffered a calf injury. NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport jumped on KNBR Monday morning to provide an update.
"What I was told was that he's feeling pain in his calf, kind of all around his calf," Rapoport said. "Generally, if it's an Achilles, it's acute, and it's honestly not that painful, which is kind of weird. It's just not. It's like ACLs aren't that painful because it doesn't feel pain. It snaps, and that's it. You can walk around on an ACL. You can walk around on an Achilles.
"Sherman left the stadium in a walking boot and was in pain. So I don't know exactly what that means as far as how long it would be, but it sounds like, at this point, a calf rather than an Achilles. We'll see. We'll get an update later today."
Sherman, of course, is coming off an Achilles injury, which he suffered last November as a member of the Seattle Seahawks. He signed with the 49ers in March.
Sherman has looked good in his first season with San Francisco. He has been targeted by opposing quarterbacks just six times this season and given up one reception for 18 yards, according to Pro Football Focus. That's impressive considering he has been on the field for 120 coverage snaps. Quarterbacks have a passer rating of 39.6 while targeting Sherman.
You can listen to the entire interview with Rapoport below. He also discussed quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo's injury and potential recovery time, which you can read about here.
