The San Francisco 49ers are promoting running back Matt Dayes from the practice squad to the active roster, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

San Francisco has until 1 p.m. PT to make the roster move official.

The 49ers were down a running back after losing Raheem Mostert for the season with a fractured right forearm suffered during the team's Week 9 victory over the Oakland Raiders.

The Cleveland Browns made Dayes (5-9, 205) a seventh-round draft pick out of North Carolina State in 2017. He registered five carries for 13 yards along with four receptions for 29 yards in 16 games last season with Cleveland. Dayes also added 18 kickoff returns for 437 yards (24.3 average) and eight tackles on special teams. The Browns waived Dayes on September 2.

The 49ers added Dayes to the practice squad on October 9.

Dayes finished his college career at North Carolina State with 2,856 rushing yards and 34 career rushing touchdowns. He finished third in the ACC with 1,166 rushing yards on 249 carries along with 10 rushing touchdowns in 13 games as a senior.
