The San Francisco 49ers have announced that the team has waived defensive back Tyvis Powell. The 49ers also officially announced the promotion of running back Matt Dayes from the practice squad to the active roster, a move that was first reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Powell (6-3, 211) was promoted from the 49ers practice squad to the active roster on September 22 and then released on October 6 before being re-signed to the practice squad three days later. He was promoted to the active roster again on October 20. Powell registered six tackles and one forced fumble on defense and had one special teams tackle in five games and one start this season.

Powell joined the 49ers late last season after being signed to the practice squad on November 1, 2017, and promoted to the active roster on December 16, 2017. He registered five tackles on defense through three game appearances last season.
