The 49ers will be without their starting receivers on Sunday. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Friday morning that he didn't expect Marquise Goodwin or Pierre Garçon to be available in Seattle. Both have been ruled out against the Seahawks.
Goodwin remains excused for personal reasons. He missed this past Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
"(Goodwin is dealing with) family concerns and things like that," Shanahan told reporters on Friday afternoon. "Real stuff and he's having a real tough time with it, which is understandably so. He tried to come in yesterday and came to a meeting. I met with him after and we talked for a while, and he just didn't seem like he was in a good spot.
"I thought it would be better for him to go be with his family right now. He agreed, and we'll reassess after the game, and where we go next week."
Garçon also missed Sunday's game due to the knee injury he has been dealing with for most of the season. Shanahan repeated some of the things he said about Garçon earlier Friday morning.
"I don't see it getting a lot better right now," Shanahan said. "We haven't had to put him on IR in the situations we're in. We just haven't been forced to.
"With Marquise being down and stuff, and seeing how the rest of this year goes, he's there if we need him. He'd have to battle through some stuff, but it's been very tough for him to practice and things like that. Without him practicing these number of weeks, I just don't think it's right to put him in the game."
Shanahan said that activating Steven Dunbar from the practice squad to add a fifth receiver isn't an option.
"Dunbar pulled his hamstring in practice last week, so he's not an option," Shanahan revealed. "We still have [Victor Bolden]."
