The San Francisco 49ers took a notable injury early during their Week 17 game against the Los Angeles Rams, losing running back Jeff Wilson to a shoulder injury.
San Francisco 49ers running back Jeff Wilson, who got the start in Week 17 with Matt Breida going on injured reserve, ended up suffering an injury early during the Niners' Week 17 trip to play the Los Angeles Rams.
On 3rd-and-10 at the 11:10 mark of the first quarter, and with San Francisco already trailing 7-0, Wilson suffered a shoulder injury when quarterback Nick Mullens was hit during a throw, and his wobbly pass resulted in an interception. Wilson was subsequently listed as questionable to return, which will open up first-team carries for the veteran, Alfred Morris, until Wilson returns. If he does.
Wilson was carted off the field, which isn't a good sign either.
It's a shame for Wilson, who was looking for a solid game against a Rams defense that was allowing an average of 5.0 yards per carry going into the game -- second worst in the NFL. Wilson, the undrafted rookie, is hoping to carve out a spot on the 2019 roster, which will be made tougher when Breida, Jerick McKinnon (ACL) and possibly Raheem Mostert (forearm), who is a restricted free agent, return from injuries.
The 49ers, meanwhile, find themselves down early and trail 14-0 with Mullens tossing two interceptions and fullback Kyle Juszczyk coughing up a fumble.
