That didn't happen.
Tight end George Kittle was the lone San Francisco 49ers player named an All-Pro by the Associated Press on Friday morning. He made the second-team behind first-team selection Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs.
Adding insult to injury was the fact that Buckner received just two All-Pro votes among the interior defenders, according to Cam Inman of Bay Area News Group.
Below is the breakdown.
Player | Team | All-Pro Votes |
Aaron Donald* | Rams | 50 |
Fletcher Cox* | Eagles | 19 |
Chris Jones** | Chiefs | 14 |
J.J. Watt** | Texans | 10 |
Akiem Hicks | Bears | 4 |
DeForest Buckner | 49ers | 2 |
Jurrell Casey | Titans | 1 |
* first-team All-Pro
** second-team All-Pro
"The organization, coaches, and everybody knows my ability," Buckner told reporters last month after his Pro Bowl snub. "The recognition would be cool, but it's out of my hands. They've got me as an alternate so at least they know my name. Now I've got to get them to remember it."
Buckner finished this past season with 67 combined tackles, a career-high 12 sacks, and three passes defensed. He finished with more tackles and sacks compared to Fletcher Cox, who was named a first-team All-Pro. The big difference is that each of the four players named first- or second-team All-Pro are on playoff teams.
"There's a lot of guys out there that I think deserve it," fullback Kyle Juszczyk said last month, "but it's tough when you're 4-10. You don't always get the most exposure."
