Kingsbury's time at USC was short-lived. He was hired to be the football team's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach on December 5. Before that, Kingsbury spent six years as Texas Tech's head coach and spent time in various roles with the Texas A&M and Houston football programs. He was 35-40 with the Red Raiders.
Since becoming an offensive coordinator in 2011, Kingsbury's offenses have averaged almost 550 yards and over 40 points per game. The Cardinals offense ranked last in points scored, total yards, passing yards, and rushing yards in 2018.
Kingsbury also played quarterback at both the college and pro levels. He played for Texas Tech before being drafted in the sixth round by the New England Patriots in 2003. Kingsbury also spent time with the New Orleans Saints and New York Jets before playing in NFL Europe and the Canadian Football League.
Kingsbury will become the third head coach in the NFC West who is under the age of 40. Both he and San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan are 39 while Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay is 32. Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is 67.
