"My source [in San Francisco] tells me that they haven't even engaged in conversations with Earl Thomas," Slater said on-air. "He's looking for a $14 million deal (average salary). He wants to get paid more than Eric Berry was in Kansas City."
Berry earns an average of $13 million per season under his current contract.
The Cowboys are reportedly uninterested in breaking the bank for Thomas, who grew up a fan of the team. Dallas would not be interested unless his salary demands dropped to the $8-10 million range, according to Slater.
Former New York Giants safety Landon Collins reached a six-year, $84 million agreement with the Washington Redskins on Monday. That is an average of $14 million, which for now, will make Collins the highest-paid safety in the NFL.
The 49ers did come to terms with one defensive player. The team agreed on a four-year deal worth up to $54 million with Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Kwon Alexander.
