Coleman is 25 years old. He joins a 49ers backfield that already includes Jerick McKinnon, Matt Breida, and Raheem Mostert. San Francisco reportedly made a late push for Le'Veon Bell before he decided to sign with the New York Jets, so the team was in the hunt for another running back.
Coleman played for Kyle Shanahan when the 49ers head coach was the offensive coordinator in Atlanta for two seasons.
The Falcons made Coleman a third-round selection out of Indiana in 2015. He carried the football 167 times for 800 yards with four rushing touchdowns while adding 32 receptions for 276 yards with five receiving touchdowns through 16 games and 14 starts with the Falcons in 2018. Coleman has 2,340 rushing yards on 528 attempts with 18 touchdowns through his four NFL seasons.
