Garoppolo told reporters on Tuesday that he spent time watching film with Mike Shanahan in December, according to Nick Wagoner of ESPN.
Garoppolo is expected to begin throwing and doing some non-contact work during organized team activities, which kick off in late-May. The 49ers remain hopeful that he will be completely healthy by training camp or the start of the regular season.
Garoppolo completed 53-of-89 attempts (59.6 percent) for 718 yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions through three starts last season before suffering his season-ending injury during a Week 3 contest against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Meanwhile, league rules prevent Kyle Shanahan from talking football with his quarterback until the team reconvenes in April. The two still see each other around the 49ers facilities.
"We can talk, but we can't talk about football," Shanahan said on Tuesday via 49ers team reporter Joe Fann. "We don't have much else to talk about, though, so it's pretty awkward."
