NFL teams are permitted to host up to 30 players for official pre-draft visits at their facilities. Unlike local prospects, those players are not allowed to work out for the team during the visit.
Hanks registered 101 combined tackles, nine for a loss, a sack, and an interception for the Aggies in 2018, which followed a seven-sack performance in 2017.
Hanks participated in the Senior Bowl, where he was part of the Kyle Shanahan and 49ers-coached South Squad.
At the NFL Scouting Combine, the 6-foot-2 and 242-pound Hanks had a 40-time of 4.98 seconds, a vertical jump of 35.5 inches, a broad jump of 118 inches, and 21 reps in the bench press. Other measurables for Hanks include an arm length of 33 1/2 inches and hands that measure 9 3/4 inches.
Lance Zierlein of NFL.com wrote the following about Hanks within his scouting report:
"Linebacker prospect with productive four-year resume to catch the attention of the scouting community. Hanks is active and plays downhill, but he can be overactive and inefficient in his flow to the ball, leading to missed run fits and tackles. He is an average athlete in space so he will need to improve his play strength and recognition quickness in order to be more than a backup and special teams contributor."
Joe Marino of The Draft Network wrote the following about Hanks within his scouting report:
"Hanks' ability in coverage, range and urgency makes him an ideal candidate to function as a weakside linebacker in a 4-3 defense. His shortcomings taking on blocks, playing into the line of scrimmage and processing does limit his versatility but he is still new to playing linebacker after transitioning from safety to linebacker as a senior. Hanks should be a core special teams player while providing value in sub-packages initially in his career but development is needed for him to be a starter. His size and athletic ability does suggest there is upside present but getting stronger, improving his technique and developing the mental side is critical."
