The 49ers previously met with Austin during Rutgers' pro day in March. The cornerback's 2018 season ended early after he underwent a second surgery to repair an ACL initially injured during the 2017 season.
At the NFL Scouting Combine, the 6-foot-1 and 198-pound Austin had 15 reps in the bench press. Other measurables for Austin include an arm length of 32 1/2 inches and hands that measure 10 inches.
"Last year, Austin was considered the top cornerback in the 2019 NFL Draft," writes Talbot. "He is now hoping to make good to deliver on that promise, but he just needs a team to give him a chance."

Austin reportedly ran a 4.67-second 40-yard dash at his pro day and jumped 35.5 inches in the vertical and displayed a 10-foot-3 leap in the broad jump.
NFL.com projects Austin to be a sixth-round draft pick.
Lance Zierlein of NFL.com wrote the following about Austin within his scouting report:
"Tall cornerback with good length who possesses good change of direction talent and short-area quickness to stay within striking distance of ball production. Austin's is a little inconsistent mirroring the release from press and he may lack upper body strength to re-route bigger cornerbacks in the league. While teams can figure which coverage is best suited to his talent, his draft value may end up being tied directly to concerns over durability which have already impacted my own grade."
Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst wrote the following about Austin within his scouting report:
"Austin was graded as one of the top three senior cornerback prospects in the nation by scouts before the season, but he barely saw the field after he underwent a second knee surgery to repair an injury from 2017. He possesses the size and skill to play at the next level but must polish his technique and, more than anything else, display no ill effects from the injury that has kept him on the sidelines for most of the past two years."
