The San Francisco 49ers tendered a one-year contract to exclusive rights free agent defensive back Greg Mabin on March 7. The team announced on Monday that Mabin signed his tender.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed Mabin as an undrafted free agent out of Iowa on May 1, 2017. He spent time with the Buffalo Bills before being signed to the 49ers practice squad on October 18, 2017. San Francisco promoted Mabin to the active roster on November 1, 2017.

Mabin appeared in 13 games with one start in 2018 while registering 16 combined tackles and a forced fumble, per NFL.com. San Francisco waived the cornerback on October 30, 2018, and re-signed him to the practice squad on November 1, 2018. The 49ers promoted Mabin to the active roster on November 8, 2018.

The 49ers also announced the reinstatement of defensive tackle Cedric Thornton, who retired in August of 2018 after less than a month with the team. Field Yates of ESPN was the first to report Thornton's return to the 49ers and the NFL.
