Cobb played seven years in the NFL after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers made him a second-round pick out of Tennessee in 1990. He remained in Tampa until 1993, the same year the team drafted a future nine-time Pro Bowl selection and three-time first-team All-Pro safety by the name of John Lynch.
Lynch, now the 49ers general manager, issued the following statement about his staff member and former teammate.
"We are devastated by the sudden loss of a tremendous teammate and loyal friend, Reggie Cobb. Reggie was an enthusiastic and passionate person who had a special ability to brighten up a room with his personality and infectious smile. For 10 years, the 49ers were better because of Reggie and these unique qualities that he possessed. He was a top-notch scout and an exemplary man whose years of service to this organization and the National Football League will not be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends in this time of mourning."
Cobb spent time with the Green Bay Packers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and New York Jets after his time with the Buccaneers. He entered the scouting world with the Washington Redskins in 2001 and spent two seasons there.
Cobb also spent six years with his former team, the Buccaneers, before becoming the 49ers' Western regional scout in 2009. He was named the NFC Scout of the Year by the Fritz Pollard Alliance in 2011.
Those that had the privilege of knowing and working with Cobb, including current and past 49ers players, reflected on the loss via social media. It gives you just a small glimpse at how respected he was within the scouting community and among the players.
