The San Francisco 49ers won't exercise guard Joshua Garnett's fifth-year option, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. That makes the upcoming season the final one of his four-year rookie contract.

Garnett is 25 years old.

The 49ers made Garnett, who played college football at Stanford, the No. 28 overall selection in 2016. He has 22 game appearances and 11 starts through his three NFL seasons.

Garnett did not play in 2017 after landing on injured reserve with a knee injury just before the start of the season. He appeared in seven games and played in just 59 offensive snaps in 2018, according to Pro Football Focus. Starter Mike Person logged 1,000 offensive snaps.

Garnett was part of the same draft class as defensive tackle DeForest Buckner. San Francisco exercised Buckner's fifth-year option on April 24.
