After catching 43 passes for 430 receiving yards with two touchdowns as a rookie, big things were expected out of Taylor during his second NFL season. He caught just 26 passes for 215 yards with a touchdown in 2018.
Taylor shares similar physical attributes with his new receivers coach, Wes Welker. They are about the same height and weight, so the comparisons come naturally. Welker spent 12 seasons in the NFL, was a five-time Pro Bowl selection, a two-time first-team All-Pro, and three times led the NFL in receptions.
Welker sounded high on Taylor while speaking with reporters after Tuesday's practice. The 49ers have a crowded receiver group this offseason after adding two potentially big-play targets via the draft, so the roster competition will be fierce.

"Trent has been really fun to coach," Welker said. "That's probably the easiest guy for me to coach not only because of his skillset, but smart kid, and understands the game, understands space, all those different things.
"He's been healthy this whole spring, which has really helped him, and he's been doing a really great job. I'm really excited to be coaching him, a guy that I really liked when he was coming out. To be able to coach him now, it's been pretty cool."
