Lynch announced that the following players would begin training camp on the team's Active/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. These players are allowed to participate in team meetings, and utilize training and medical facilities, but cannot practice.
- RB Jerick McKinnon
- TE Garrett Celek
- C Weston Richburg
- DB Jimmie Ward
Lynch says McKinnon recently had a "flare-up" in his knee and the team wanted to be cautious.
"We expect him back soon into camp," Lynch said.
Celek, who had back surgery this offseason, could also start the regular season on the PUP list. He was also dealing with the lasting effects of a concussion from late last season. Celek won't be subjected to a concussion test until he has recovered from the back surgery.
The team hopes Richburg will be ready for Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
"He's working hard and doing real well in his recovery," Lynch said.
Ward fractured his collarbone on May 23. Lynch expects him to return a couple of weeks into training camp.
Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to be fully cleared for training camp as soon as the physical is complete, says Shanahan. Also expected to be full-go for practice is the team's new linebacker, Kwon Alexander.
Update: Garoppolo confirmed on Friday that he has officially been cleared to practice.
