While Bosa's status was the most significant information to come from the conversation, the 49ers GM also provided another injury update, which should not be overlooked.
Lynch said pass rusher Dee Ford's knee tendinitis isn't an acute injury. It's more of a chronic thing that flares up from time to time. The 49ers want to make sure Ford got the rest he needs now before things really start to matter.
"You can give a day or two off, but that's really not going to eliminate (it)," Lynch said. "We wanted that gone before the season."
Lynch added, "Dee's fine. He's kind of done his week down, and now it's back to ramping him back up. He should be ready, I believe, that Kansas City (game during) Week 3 of preseason. Whether we'll put him out there or not, I'm not sure, but he'll be back practicing then."
Ford's previous team was the Kansas City Chiefs. In March, the 49ers sent a second-round pick in next year's draft to the Chiefs in exchange for the pass rusher.
"He's a guy who's played a lot of NFL games," head coach Kyle Shanahan added during a later interview on KNBR. "We've seen him enough at practice. He knows what he's doing. He knows how to prepare for the season. We want him to be the [healthiest] possible Week 1. We don't need him out there just killing himself and grinding through that, and waiting to [heal up] on a bye week. We'd rather he do it now, and he'll be good to go Week 1."
