San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Trent Taylor, an offseason standout, underwent surgery on Friday to repair a fractured toe. He is out indefinitely but the team hopes he makes a return this season. Taylor was first thought to be a candidate to land on injured reserve and possibly come off IR later this year when the injury was initially reported to be a broken foot, but that may not be the case.

Update: Head coach Kyle Shanahan informed reporters that Taylor suffered a Jones fracture.

News of the injury was revealed during the broadcast of Saturday's preseason opener against the Dallas Cowboys, and confirmed by general manager John Lynch, who shared the details of the injury.

Taylor, however, doesn't believe he will miss a significant amount of time. He later reached out to fans via Twitter and thanked everyone for their good wishes. Taylor also said he will just miss "a couple of games" and promised to be back soon and better than ever.
