The San Francisco 49ers got several players back as the team kicked off one of two practices this week in preparation for its final preseason game — a Thursday matchup at Levi's Stadium against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Among the notable returns are tight end George Kittle and pass rusher Dee Ford. Neither Kittle nor Ford have played in a preseason game this year, and are unlikely to do so.

The 49ers also activated Weston Richburg off the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list just before practice and the starting center is out on the field with his teammates on Monday.

One notable and surprising absence is second-year wide receiver Dante Pettis, who is working with the strength and conditioning staff on a side field during practice.

Update: Pettis told reporters after practice that he is dealing with a "minor groin issue."

Did not practice:
DE Ronald Blair (groin)
DE Nick Bosa (ankle)
WR Jalen Hurd (back)
RB Jerick McKinnon (knee)
RB Raheem Mostert (quad)
WR Dante Pettis (groin)
WR Trent Taylor (foot)
CB Jason Verrett (ankle)

Returned to practice:
S Adrian Colbert (hamstring)
DE Dee Ford (knee)
G Joshua Garnett (finger)
TE George Kittle (calf)
LB Elijah Lee (thumb)
