The Chargers gave Gordon and his representatives permission to seek a trade after contract extension talks stalled. Los Angeles has no intention of reopening discussions until after the 2019 season.
Gordon is set to earn $5.6 million during the upcoming season on the fifth-year option from his rookie contract. The running back, however, is reportedly seeking a contract extension worth over $10 million per season and does not plan to report to the Chargers as they prepare for Week 1 of the regular season.
In addition to the 49ers and Raiders, Gordon has started following the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles, too.
The Chargers made Gordon, who played college football at Wisconsin, the No. 15 overall selection in 2015. He carried the football 175 times for 885 yards with 10 rushing touchdowns while adding 50 receptions for 490 yards with four receiving touchdowns through 12 starts with Los Angeles in 2018.
Gordon has 3,628 rushing yards on 897 attempts with 28 rushing touchdowns through his four NFL seasons.
The 49ers enter the regular season with three running backs — Tevin Coleman, Matt Breida, and Raheem Mostert — on their 53-player roster. The team placed Jerick McKinnon on season-ending injured reserve for the second straight season and also signed Jeff Wilson to its practice squad.
Again, it may be nothing, but fans took notice of Gordon's social media actions. There is no speculation here. I'm just pointing out an interesting tidbit that was sent to us.
