San Francisco 49ers linebacker Kwon Alexander was having quite a game against this former team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in Week 1.

In the first quarter, Alexander nearly picked off quarterback Jameis Winston for what would have been the Niners' first turnover of the game. Despite that gaffe, Alexander was still a major force for a Niners defense that allowed just 58 yards in the quarter. Alexander also speared Buccaneers running back Peyton Barber for what was a nice play.

Late in the quarter, however, Winston took off on a third-down scramble up the middle. Going down somewhat awkwardly, Alexander flew in for the tackle, but led with his helmet and hit his on Winston's.

Check out the play (h/t SB Nation's James Brady):

Alexander was first flagged for a 15-yard penalty, which wasn't surprising. But then the officials announced Alexander's disqualification in the game.

Azeez Al-Shaair and Mark Nzeocha are the Niners' reserve linebackers behind Alexander.

San Francisco currently leads Tampa Bay 3-0 in the second quarter.
