Yet Owens, who will be inducted into the San Francisco 49ers Edward J. DeBartolo Hall of Fame at halftime, during the Niners' Week 3 contest at Levi's Stadium against the Pittsburgh Steelers, never underwent anything close to the crazy period that former Steelers, Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots wide receiver Antonio Brown is currently undergoing.
Brown, whose travels to Oakland, out of Oakland and then quickly to New England, only to find himself released after one game, has been the off-field storyline around the NFL.
And that story gained even more attention on Sunday, as Brown sent off a series of tweets, including one which suggested he was going to end his NFL career:
Owens was asked about Brown during a pregame interview with media ahead of Sunday's game.
"I don't want to answer questions about Brown," Owens said. "What I can say is you're innocent until proven guilty. ...If I say anything to him, it will be in private."
Owens also said he's close friends with Brown and hopes the newly unemployed wideout will be able to address his situations as best as possible.
Meanwhile, the 49ers and Steelers will prepare for kickoff on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET from Levi's Stadium. Owens' induction ceremony takes place at halftime.
