I'm not going to lie. I was hoping maybe Goff would have said something to tick off 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa or something. No such luck, though.
So what exactly did Goff say in response to what was probably meant as a compliment by the 49ers coach?
"Thanks, Kyle," Goff said of the assessment while smiling. "I don't care. Most of the people doing ratings aren't in the buildings, so they can do that. But thank you, Kyle. I appreciate it, and I think you're one of the more underrated coaches."
Fun. Thanks, Eric, for the find.
The 49ers (4-0) and Rams (3-2) face off in an NFC West showdown on Sunday at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. It is probably one of the most anticipated division matchups since ... well ... since Week 5's bout between the Rams and the Seattle Seahawks. Still, San Francisco being one of just two remaining undefeated teams left in the NFL adds something to this weekend's game.
Goff was also asked about the similarities between Shanahan's offense and his head coach's, Sean McVay. That's when the Rams quarterback sent some legitimate praise Shanahan's way.
"There's a lot of crossover," Goff said. "I haven't spent a lot of time watching their offense, but there is some crossover. And again, I think Kyle does a great job. I think he's done a great job over the last few years, and putting them in good situations even without Jimmy (Garoppolo) last year.
"I think he's a tremendous coach and does a great job. They do come from similar families of offenses, but there are a lot of different wrinkles that they do that we don't do and vice versa."
And for Bosa, I'm just going to leave this right here.
