San Francisco 49ers quarterback C.J. Beathard's name emerged on Sunday morning as a potential trade candidate, courtesy of Adam Schefter of ESPN. The NFL insider wrote via Twitter that the Niners were receiving some interest in the third quarterback on the depth chart, but didn't offer much more in terms of details.

The trade deadline is on Tuesday.

Schefter joined the "Kap & Co." show on ESPN Radio in Chicago on Monday and was asked if the Bears might be interested in Beathard. Fans in Chicago appear to have given up on their team after it fell under .500 on Sunday.

I must point out that Schefter's response is purely speculation, but it was an interesting take on the potential for a trade between Chicago and San Francisco.

"The 49ers, if someone made them an offer for a late-round pick (in exchange for Beathard), they'd take it," Schefter said. "Give them a — I'm making this up — a six or a seven. A seven that turns into a six, they'd take that, I think. Chicago, it might be worth a guy -- it's worth bringing in a guy for a seven."

Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area is hearing otherwise. He reported on Sunday that the offers for Beathard have been in the sixth-round range and that San Francisco is unlikely to follow through on such a deal.

Schefter took the potential trade a step further.

"You know what?" he asked. "Now that I think about it, how about Taylor Gabriel for C.J. Beathard?"

The show's hosts paused for a second because they were looking to get draft picks back for someone like Gabriel.

"Quarterbacks are a currency, so you can never go wrong with a quarterback," Schefter continued. "Kyle Shanahan knows how to use Taylor Gabriel as well as anybody. They're winning, and Taylor Gabriel would be dangerous in that offense.

"But again, we're just spit-balling here, and who knows what the deal is. I'm sure that's probably not a trade that could happen."

Schefter went on to say maybe Gabriel to some NFL team for a sixth- or seventh-rounder could be a possibility.

It is important to note that the 49ers last week traded for Denver Broncos wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders, so the team has already upgraded the position. Would John Lynch and company be willing to bring in two receivers in the span of a week?

H/t to Marcus White of NBC Sports Bay Area for the find.
