San Francisco 49ers cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon was on the field warming up with his teammates before tonight's showdown with the Seattle Seahawks. The 49ers just waived cornerback Dontae Johnson to make room for tight end Garrett Celek, who was activated off of the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.

So, of course, there was some speculation that Witherspoon might be available tonight. Not necessarily start, but at least be active. That wasn't the case. His name was among the list of inactive players.

That doesn't mean Witherspoon, who suffered a foot sprain during Week 3, isn't healthy enough to play. Matt Barrows of The Athletic notes that the third-year cornerback feels 100-percent and is expected to make his return to the football field for the 49ers' Week 11 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.

The fact that Witherspoon was limited this past week had more to do with the decision to sit him out.

Witherspoon has to wait six more days to get back on the football field.
