"He got out of the game fine with his leg," head coach Kyle Shanahan informed reporters on Tuesday, "but he ended up having a finger fracture/dislocation. Right now, he's getting a second opinion on it, and we'll have more on that [Wednesday], but surgery could be a possibility."
Surgery would mean more time missed for Staley, possibly a couple of weeks, added Shanahan. It sounds like that's exactly what will happen, according to the anchor on the opposite side of the offensive line, Mike McGlinchey.
"His spirits are high," McGlinchey said of Staley on Wednesday via ESPN's Nick Wagoner, "He's going to continue to rehab and be a pro like he always does, and hopefully we get him back in a few weeks."
Staley, a 13-year veteran, has spent his entire NFL career with the 49ers. He has started at least 15 games during seven of his last eight seasons and all 16 during six of those, including 2018.
Rookie Justin Skule started at left tackle during Staley's absence and performed well in his six starts. San Francisco is preparing for its Week 11 matchup at Levi's Stadium on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.
