Breida did not play last weekend against the Arizona Cardinals after aggravating an ankle injury during Week 10's matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.
"I think we've seen with Matt over the years, you look at players' history, and when he's been banged up, sometimes it's led to a situation where he can play, but he is continually having to come out with things," general manager John Lynch said this past week. "I think we're trying to just get him healthy because when he's healthy, he's a dynamic back. When compromised, he's a smaller guy, and it's tough for him to play effectively.
"So we want to get him fully healthy. I think that's been our focus and the word from the docs? A couple of weeks would help."
The good news is that three of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo's most reliable targets, tight end George Kittle (knee, ankle) and wide receivers Deebo Samuel (shoulder) and Emmanuel Sanders (ribs), are all expected to play.
The only players ruled out of tonight's game are defensive end Dee Ford (quadricep, hamstring) and tackle Joe Staley (finger).
