According to NBC Sports Bay Area's Jennifer Lee Chan (h/t Niners Wire's Kyle Madson), the Niners were going to make either Goodwin or Pettis inactive for Week 12. Pettis, who appeared only late during the Niners' Week 11 victory over the Arizona Cardinals, will have a chance to resurrect his scuffling second year against the Packers.
Goodwin, meanwhile, has been scantly a factor in head coach Kyle Shanahan's offense this season. The reasons are many, including tragic ones, yet Shanahan figures to get the most out of Pettis, along with fellow wide receivers Deebo Samuel and Emmanuel Sanders.
San Francisco's inactives for Week 12 are as follows:
- QB C.J. Beathard
- K Robbie Gould
- WR Marquise Goodwin
- RB Matt Breida
- EDGE Dee Ford
- T Joe Staley
- TE Levine Toilolo
Gould is still nursing a quad injury, while Breida was listed as doubtful with an ankle issue. In Breida's place, the 49ers figure to rely heavily on running back Tevin Coleman against a Packers defense allowing an average of 4.8 rush yards per carry.
Ford and Staley figure to be out at least another week or so with hamstring and finger injuries, respectively. But the inactive list left tight end George Kittle active, which means he'll be back for the first time since Week 9 against the Cardinals after suffering both knee and ankle injuries.
The 49ers and Packers kick off at 8:20 p.m. ET from Levi's Stadium.
