Defensive tackle D.J. Jones exited the game in the third quarter with an ankle sprain. Cornerback Richard Sherman briefly exited the game in the fourth quarter with a knee sprain while safety Jaquiski Tartt suffered a rib fracture.
All three players are considered day-to-day.
"Sherm, with what he's done over his career, being with him now, going into our second year, he's a guy that I would never rule out," Shanahan said. "I understand, though, I see him walking the way you guys did, too. A normal person, I probably would rule out just by the eye test, but you can never rule those type of guys out. They usually find a way to get there. As long as they show us enough, then you usually give those guys the opportunity.
"But that's also why we've got to make sure that he's good, and sometimes we've got to make tough decisions to protect them from themselves."
Tartt's status involves monitoring the safety's pain tolerance more than anything else.
"We'll see how he reacts this week, but those are always real painful things, and each one's a little bit different for each person," Shanahan said. "We'll see how it goes."
The more serious injury seems to be to defensive end Jullian Taylor.
"Jullian Taylor has a ligament issue in his elbow," Shanahan said. "He's likely to be out for a couple of weeks, maybe more."
Shanahan also provided some updates on running back Matt Breida (ankle), defensive end Dee Ford (quadricep, hamstring), tackle Joe Staley (finger), and wide receiver Dante Pettis (knee), who all missed Sunday's game. The coach said he is more optimistic about Breida, Ford, and Staley playing on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints than Pettis being ready to go.
"I'd be surprised to get Pettis back," Shanahan added. "None of them are for sure, though, but hopefully we'll be able to get three of the four."
