That costly face mask penalty by Marcus Williams on San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle ended up costing the New Orleans Saints safety more than 15 yards in the game, and eventually the win. The play cost him $10,527, the price of the fine issued by the NFL on Saturday, according to NBC Sports Bay Area.

The play by Kittle on 4th-and-2, and the penalty, helped set up kicker Robbie Gould for the game-winning field goal and a 49ers 48-46 win, improving the team's record to 11-2.

The win earned San Francisco the NFC's best record as the team looks to close out the regular season strong. The 49ers will host the Atlanta Falcons this weekend, the Los Angeles Rams next weekend, and then travel to CenturyLink Field to play the Seattle Seahawks for the regular-season finale.

Williams wasn't the only player from the game who was fined. His teammate, safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson was fined $28,075 for his hit against 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk in the fourth quarter, according to Pro Football Talk.

Juszczyk was examined for a concussion following the play but was later cleared to return to the game.

On the 49ers' side, cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon was fined $28,075 for his hit on Jared Cook during the play which resulted in the Saints tight end's second touchdown. Cook exited the game with a concussion in the first quarter and did not return.
