The San Francisco 49ers were among four teams to put in a claim for linebacker Terrell Suggs, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The others were the Seattle Seahawks, New Orleans Saints, and Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs, who own the worst record of the group, were awarded Suggs, whom the Arizona Cardinals released on Friday after the linebacker signed a one-year, $7 million deal on March 13. Suggs has said that he won't report to any organization other than his one desired destination — the Baltimore Ravens — and has even threatened to retire.

Suggs, 37, is a seven-time Pro Bowl selection and was named a first-team All-Pro in 2011. The 49ers will likely be without veteran pass rusher Dee Ford (hamstring) until the playoffs.

Suggs played college football at Arizona State, and the Ravens made him the No. 10 overall selection in 2003. He registered 37 combined tackles, 5.5 sacks, and four forced fumbles through 13 games with Arizona in 2019.

Suggs has recorded 883 combined tackles, 138 sacks, a safety, 60 passes defensed, seven interceptions, two touchdowns, and 39 forced fumbles through his 17 NFL seasons.
