The San Francisco 49ers are looking beyond this season and preparing for when they have to dish out significant money for players like DeForest Buckner and George Kittle. The team created some future cap space on Saturday by reworking the contract of center Weston Richburg, according to Field Yates of ESPN.


The details of the reworked deal and the cap savings are not yet available. The 49ers initially signed Richburg to a five-year, $47.5 million contract in March of 2018.

Richburg was in his sixth NFL season and his second with San Francisco before suffering a torn patellar tendon during Week 14 against the New Orleans Saints and landing on injured reserve on December 11. He started all 13 games this season before his injury.
