The 49ers signed cornerback Allen Rossum today, according to the NFL Network. He was released by the Steelers on February 22nd and, since he is a vested veteran, was able immediately sign with any team. The terms of the contract are unknown at this time.

While Rossum is listed as a cornerback, he is also a return specialist capable of fielding both punts and kickoffs. You may remember Rossum from last season's week three game against the Steelers when Rossum returned a kickoff for a touchdown.

He played in 15 games last season, missing the week 17 game against the Ravens due to a hamstring injury.

Rossum is entering his 10th NFL season. He was drafted in the 3rd round of the 1998 draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. He played for the Atlanta Falcons from 2002 to 2006 becoming their all time leader in kick off and punt return yardage.
