"Just believe in the right people, usually, good things happen," Shanahan responded. "We started out 0-9, our second year was 4-12. I had a great group of guys, added a few more this year, and we just stayed the course.
"Our guys have made it through a lot this year. We found a bunch of different ways to win, overcome some injuries, and we've got a special group that cares about each other a lot, and they've been able to carry it over to the field."
Kyle Shanahan was asked what kind of advice he has received from his Super Bowl-winning father, Mike Shanahan, headed into his biggest game since becoming the 49ers' head coach in 2017.
"The same he does every week," Shanahan said. "Just stick with your routine, be you, work as hard as you can, and that's all you can worry about."
Kyle and Mike are the first father-and-son tandem to coach in the Super Bowl. The younger Shanahan will coach his 49ers against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday, February 2.
