San Francisco 49ers starting safety Jimmie Ward stayed down following a big hit on Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Initially appearing to be a major injury, Ward was shown returning to the field following a commercial break.

It occurred on a 3rd and 11 play late in the 1st quarter when Mahomes was scrambling. The tackle likely stopped a touchdown and forced a 4th and 1 play the Chiefs converted. With Mahomes running full speed for the end zone, Ward came in the opposite direction and the two collided head on.

The Chiefs later scored the game's first touchdown on the drive.
