Hyder and the 49ers agreed to terms on March 23, and news of the signing was first reported by Rapoport. The defender entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the New York Jets, spent four seasons (2015–18) with the Detroit Lions, and then last season with the Dallas Cowboys.
Hyder's best statistical season came in 2016 with the Lions, when he racked up career-highs in tackles (36) and sacks (8). The defender spent the next season on injured reserve after suffering a torn Achilles during the preseason.
Hyder is scheduled to earn $1.5 million with the 49ers in 2020, according to Rapoport, with $550,000 guaranteed.
Rapoport also reported some of the details of former 49ers defensive lineman Sheldon Day's one-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts, where he will reunite with former teammate DeForest Buckner.
Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle later reported that Hyder's contract includes a roster bonus of $250,000 ($15,625 per game).
