At the NFL Scouting Combine, the 6-foot-5 and 319-pound Jones had a 40-time of 5.27 seconds, a vertical jump of 28.5 inches, a broad jump of 109 inches, and 24 reps in the bench press. Other measurables for Jones include an arm length of 33 7/8 inches and hands that measure 10 1/8 inches.
Below is the NFL.com draft profile bio on Jones:
Jones originally committed to Oklahoma State after finishing his high school career as a three-star recruit and member of the Houston Chronicle Top 100. However, then-Cougars head coach Tom Herman was grabbing the best players from around the area, so Jones flipped his choice. He redshirted his first year with the program before stepping into the starting left tackle spot for all 13 games the following fall. Herman left for Texas that season, but Jones stayed at UH, starting 10 games at left tackle and missing two due to injury as a sophomore. Despite excelling on the blindside in all 13 games at a junior, American Athletic Conference coaches failed to name him all-league. They rectified that situation by voting him second-team all-conference his senior year despite only starting the team's first nine games at left tackle due to a knee injury. Jones' father, Bobby, played semi-pro football.
Lance Zierlein of NFL.com, who compares Jones to Bobby Massie, wrote the following about Jones within his scouting report:
Early tape would suggest that Jones is a raw, developmental project in need of substantial technique work, but tape study later in the season suggests a level of improvement that creates additional intrigue for the long, athletic left tackle prospect. To be clear, he needs plenty of work with his pass sets and footwork, but most of his issues appear to be coachable. He's a good fit for a move-oriented rushing attack and has the traits and talent to become a future starter if he continues to develop with coaching.
Kyle Crabbs of The Draft Network wrote the following about Jones within his scouting report:
Player Summary - Josh Jones is a high ceiling, low floor offensive tackle prospect who is an OL coach's dream. With his natural skills, Jones showcases dominant physical flashes on the field and possesses the athletic ability to be a dominant pass blocker and weapon in the run game. But Jones' skills need significant polish from the ground up — he's still raw with his pass sets and footwork and can be too reactive in live action to over-set or over-pursue. Ideally he can be weaned into a starting role in the NFL.
