The San Francisco 49ers held a pre-draft interview with Notre Dame safety Jalen Elliott via FaceTime, according to Justin Melo of USA Today's Draft Wire (h/t to Niners Wire).

Melo reports that Elliott also interviewed with the New England Patriots.

Pre-draft interviews are being held virtually over video chat software, like Apple's FaceTime, as the NFL continues to observe social distancing amid the coronavirus pandemic. Members of the team staff are conducting these interviews, along with other draft preparations, remotely from their homes.

The 2020 NFL Draft is scheduled for April 23-25.

Elliott hauled in six interceptions during his final two years with the Fighting Irish. Four of those interceptions came during his junior year in 2018 when he racked up a career-high 67 tackles, seven passes defensed, and half a sack.

At the NFL Scouting Combine, the 6-foot and 205-pound Elliott had a 40-time of 4.8 seconds, a vertical jump of 34 inches, a broad jump of 125 inches, completed the three-cone drill in 6.87 seconds, 15 reps in the bench press, and a 20-yard shuttle time of 4.3 seconds. Other measurables for Elliott include an arm length of 31 3/4 inches and hands that measure 9 1/8 inches.

Below is the NFL.com draft profile bio on Elliott:

Elliott was a high school quarterback but recruiting services rated him at safety, "athlete," and receiver. He had five interceptions as a senior at Lloyd C. Bird High School in Richmond, Virginia, so those projecting him to defensive back appeared to have it right. Elliott led the Irish with four picks as a junior, along with 67 tackles and seven pass breakups in 13 starts. He started all 13 games as a senior, recording 49 tackles, two interceptions, and two pass breakups. Elliott started every game as a sophomore, too (43 stops, two pass breakups), after contributing in all 12 games as a reserve defender during his true freshman campaign (14 tackles).

Lance Zierlein of NFL.com wrote the following about Elliott within his scouting report:

Elliott has good size and average straight-line speed, but he's lacking as an open-field tackler and simply doesn't make enough plays. His 2018 tape might be a better snapshot of his abilities, but even in that tape, it's clear that he has coverage limitations in man or zone. He has below-average awareness and instincts that pull him out of position. Lacks necessary tools for consistent recovery. He has good size and may test well, which, along with his special teams potential, gives him a shot to make a roster.

Benjamin Solak of The Draft Network wrote the following about Elliott within his scouting report:

CONS: Poor fill and force player alike. Lacking in functional strength throughout the frame and cannot hold ground against tight ends, fullbacks, and highly motivated wide receivers. Takes far too aggressive angles into the line of scrimmage and deep routes alike and often plays himself out of position. Too aggressive as a man coverage defender as well form off alignments, jumping at head fakes and jab steps and allowing for separation -- invites flags when in the recovery phrase. Few reps of attacking ball and not receiver in deep coverage and seems to struggle playing with his head turned to locate the throw. Range is only average.
