Johnson, 28, returned to the 49ers on a one-year deal signed on December 11, 2019.
The 49ers made Johnson a fourth-round selection out of NC State in 2014, and he remained with the team through the 2017 season. Johnson spent 2018 with the Seattle Seahawks, Buffalo Bills, and Arizona Cardinals. He rejoined San Francisco on May 28, 2019, after a brief offseason stop with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Johnson was released as part of San Francisco's roster cuts on August 30, 2019. The 49ers brought him back on October 3, 2019, only to waive him again on November 11, 2019. The cornerback served a brief stint with the Los Angeles Chargers before San Francisco re-signed him in December.
Johnson registered three combined tackles through nine games with the 49ers and Los Angeles Chargers in 2019. He has recorded 161 combined tackles, 21 passes defensed, two interceptions, and two touchdowns through his six NFL seasons.
Verrett, 28, landed on injured reserve on October 3, 2019, after playing just three defensive snaps this past season. The 49ers initially signed the former Los Angeles Chargers cornerback to a one-year deal on March 14, 2019.
Verrett has landed on injured reserve during five of his six NFL seasons. He was trying to return from a torn Achilles suffered in August of 2018, but a training-camp ankle injury delayed that return. It was the initial injury, however, that eventually sidelined Verrett after he suffered what was described by head coach Kyle Shanahan as a "flare-up" in his knee.
Verrett's healthiest year came in 2015, and the cornerback earned a Pro Bowl selection that season.
The Chargers made Verrett the No. 25 overall selection in 2014 after playing college football at Texas Christian.
