The predicted losses will come at home in Week 4 against the Philadelphia Eagles, Week 8 on the road against the Seattle Seahawks, on the road in Week 12 against the Los Angeles Rams, and another road defeat in Week 16 against the Arizona Cardinals.
The 49ers have much of the same personnel, both among the players and coaching staff, returning from their Super Bowl run. The key losses include defensive tackle DeForest Buckner and wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders, both of whom were replaced with rookies. San Francisco replaced standout offensive tackle Joe Staley, who retired, with seven-time Pro Bowl selection Trent Williams.
If there is a Super Bowl hangover, though, NFL.com can envision the 49ers adding four more losses against teams like the Seahawks, New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers, and Dallas Cowboys. That would put the team's projected floor at 8-8.
"But too much of the personnel is back for that to happen," notes NFL.com. "And if they are hungry to finish the job, and the rookies come close to filling those shoes, add a win over Philly at home, and sweep the Rams to go 14-2. This would say a lot about Shanahan, who already has a lot of nice things being said about him."
The 49ers are scheduled to kick off the regular season against the Cardinals at Levi's Stadium on September 13.
