#PayGeorgeKittle

The hashtag has taken on a life of its own on social media. San Francisco 49ers fans want to see their favorite team finally lock up popular All-Pro tight end George Kittle to a long-term contract.

Agreeing on an extension remains a priority to the 49ers, even as the team shifts its focus toward training camp. Although, recent reports state that the two sides aren't "particularly close" on finalizing anything.

Kittle reported to the 49ers' Santa Clara facility on Tuesday, though, for his first of two COVID-19 tests. The second will occur today. Should both come back negative, he will be allowed into the building as early as this weekend.

"George is such a great fit for what we do," general manager John Lynch said this week. "He's a tremendous player. I'm sitting here looking at the vision statement for what we want in a player, and George checks every box. He's tremendous. He's what we want to be. I think it would be silly not to figure that out, so we're going to do our best to do just that."

Lynch opted not to put a timetable on when a deal might get done.

It isn't just Lynch and fans who want to see Kittle get his new deal, which will likely make him the highest-paid tight end in football. His teammate, wide receiver Trent Taylor, recently campaigned for San Francisco to hurry up and get it done. He tweeted out the following after Kittle's placement within the NFL Top 100 Players of 2020 was revealed.

What might the 49ers front office think about one of their players calling them out? Taylor urges any concerned fans to relax.
