Staff changes
The San Francisco 49ers made a couple of staff changes. Chris Foerster was hired as a consultant last offseason. He has reportedly become a permanent member of head coach Kyle Shanahan's staff, according to Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area.
Foerster resigned from the Miami Dolphins in 2017 after a video of him snorting a white powdery substance surfaced. The 49ers were his first NFL job since the incident.
"He is still in a consulting role because I do understand the seriousness of this matter," Shanahan explained last year. "We're trying to ease him back in. I understand how big of a problem he did have. I also understand what he's doing in committing to fix that problem. We're trying to give him a chance to get back on track."
Former NFL receiver Miles Austin was also brought in last offseason as an offensive quality control coach. Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports that he is no longer on the coaching staff.
Daily COVID-19 testing extended
The NFL Players Association (NFLPA) reported an agreement with the NFL to continue daily COVID-19 testing through September 5. Testing was initially scheduled to move to every other day after two weeks of declining positive-test rates.
