Head coach Kyle Shanahan hopes to have Samuel and Aiyuk back for Week 1. James will miss some time, and Hurd's season is over.
Shanahan revealed the latest injury during a KNBR interview on Friday morning.
"J.J. Nelson has come in and done a real good job," Shanahan said on the Murph & Mac show while discussing the receivers. "He's been banged up the last two days. We just got some injury stuff on him yesterday, so he's probably going to be out here for the next month, so you lose another (receiver)."
San Francisco added Nelson earlier this month. The Arizona Cardinals made the receiver a fifth-round selection out of UAB in 2015. He spent last season with the Oakland Raiders, where he caught four passes for 36 yards and a score.
Nelson has compiled 85 receptions for 1,475 yards with 11 touchdowns in his five NFL seasons.
