"Jimmy G, he's going to blossom this year," Rice said Monday during an interview on 95.7 The Game's The Morning Show. "He's only going to get better, and the sky is the limit for this guy. I think when you've got an offensive coordinator like Kyle Shanahan, who's going to put you in a position where you can win, I think everything goes to his corner."
The debate took into account the system in which each quarterback finds himself. So that led to Rice being asked how he believes Prescott might perform compared to Garoppolo if the Cowboys quarterback were plugged into Shanahan's system with the 49ers.
"I think [Prescott] would have success," Rice responded. "But I don't think he would be like Jimmy G. Overall, I think Jimmy G is the better quarterback than Dak. I'm sorry. I'm just going to call it. That's just my opinion. That's my opinion, and I could be wrong, but I think, right now, with Jimmy G, he's the better quarterback than Dak Prescott."
Garoppolo completed 69.1 percent of his passes for 3,978 yards with 27 touchdowns and 13 interceptions last season. Prescott completed 65.1 percent of his passes for an impressive 4,902 yards with 30 touchdowns compared to 11 interceptions. The 49ers finished with 13 wins, winning the NFC West and earning a Super Bowl appearance. The Cowboys won eight games and failed to make the playoffs.
Added Rice: "Like I said, two great quarterbacks, but I think in the system that Jimmy G is in right now, and with Kyle Shanahan, and the weapons that he's got around him right now, and they're adding on. Kendrick Bourne is still there. Then you've got Brandon Aiyuk. Then you've got that running game. Then you've got George Kittle. Deebo Samuel is going to be ready to go. So it's going to be exciting this year."
