"He does have a shot," general manager John Lynch told reporters via a conference call on Sunday. "I know Tuesday morning, we're kind of having a summit with Dr. (Robert) Anderson, who did the surgery, (team surgeon) Doc (Tim) McAdams and our training staff to kind of take the latest look at the scans and whatnot to see exactly where he's at."
Samuel suffered a Jones fracture during a June player-organized practice in Tennessee. He has repeatedly expressed his determination to be ready for Week 1.
"I can tell you that Deebo has done a fantastic job," Lynch continued. "I think you all saw, one of the cool things now is these guys record everything they do, we got to see how hard Deebo was working. I'm a huge believer that when you get injured, and you're already in great shape, you tend to heal quicker.
"Deebo has continued that tremendous work ethic and has remained very positive, and upbeat, and resolute in his want to be back on the field right away. And that goes a long way.
"So, we're hopeful, but I don't have an answer (about his availability) because we don't know it yet."
