Peter Schrager of Good Morning Football recently called the San Francisco 49ers one of the most disrespected conference champions in recent memory.

With the regular season less than a week away, the disrespect seemingly continues. Not only is Peter King of NBC Sports not picking San Francisco to win the NFC, but he doesn't even envision the team winning its division.

King has the 49ers earning the No. 5 seed in the conference and the Seattle Seahawks winning the NFC West.

The reason? Quarterbacks.

"San Francisco, up by two scores with eight minutes left in the Super Bowl and with so many key guys returning, is a logical pick," wrote King in his latest Football Morning In America column, "and it wouldn't surprise me if the Niners went 12-4 and steamed to the top seed. I'm picking Seattle to edge the Niners in the division. It's overly simplistic to say it's a referendum on the quarterbacks, but that has much to do with it. I trust Russell Wilson over Jimmy Garoppolo."

King, by the way, doesn't have Seattle making it to the conference title game. He has the New Orleans Saints hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And no, the Saints aren't even the No. 1 seed in his projection. The Dallas Cowboys earned that distinction.

King must be impressed with the Buccaneers because he has Tom Brady and his new squad knocking off the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl LV.

Here is how King sees the NFC playoff seeding panning out:

  1. Dallas
  2. New Orleans
  3. Seattle
  4. Minnesota
  5. San Francisco
  6. Tampa Bay
  7. Detroit
