San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to reporters before Wednesday's practice and revealed seven of the team's captains heading into the 2020 season. They are quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, tight end George Kittle, defensive lineman Arik Armstead, cornerback Richard Sherman, linebacker Fred Warner, and tackles Mike McGlinchey and Trent Williams.

49ers players voted on Saturday, and the captains were announced to the team on Monday.

"There's seven of them. I think last year, we had five," Shanahan said. "They changed the rules. We're allowed to have eight this year. ... Room for one more, if we decide to go that way."

San Francisco will kick off the regular season on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals at Levi's Stadium.
