"I've always been a fan of Ziggy," Shanahan told reporters via Zoom on Monday. "Playing against him and stuff, he's always been a real good player. With (defensive line coach) Kris (Kocurek) having such a good relationship with him over the years, coaching him in Detroit, so we've always kept in contact with him.
"I don't know what the plan is yet, but we're bringing him in tomorrow to work him out, see where he's at, and we'll see how it goes."
Ansah has recorded 228 tackles, 50.5 sacks, four passes defensed, and 12 forced fumbles through his seven NFL seasons. He registered 18 tackles, 2.5 sacks, two passes defensed, and two forced fumbles through 11 games with the Seahawks in 2019.
Shanahan was also asked about the possibility of bringing in some veteran wide receiver help given the injuries at the position. The coach was specifically asked about Mohamed Sanu.
"We'll see how these injuries go, but I love Sanu," Shanahan responded. "I mean, he's a hell of a player. Him being out there, it's always a possibility. We'll look into everything we have, though. We've got to know if our numbers are going to be up this week, which we don't have that settled yet. But I wouldn't rule that out at all.
"I mean, he's available, and he's definitely a guy that I respect, and I think everyone in this league respects. So, we'll see how it goes this week."
Sanu has caught 403 passes for 4,507 yards with 26 touchdowns through his eight NFL seasons. He registered 59 receptions for 520 yards with two touchdowns through 15 games with the Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots in 2019.
